Clay County Pheasants Forever Ladies Pheasant Hunt Proves Huge Success

By Steve Weisman

The Clay County Pheasants Forever Chapter held its fourth annual Ladies Hunt on Saturday November 7. A total of 30 ladies participated in the annual event. Paul Daniels, one of the organizers says, “The day was a great success. The ladies were given an opportunity to experience a pheasant hunt on some really good pheasant habitat. I want to thank Bill and Debi Muller for hosting the event and DNR Conservation Officer Marty Eby, along with Nelson Jewelry as our presenting sponsor, together with our other sponsors BlackEarth Java, The Prime Rib, Century Farms Distillery, Clay County Convention and Visitor’s Bureau, Vanessa Moore from Vertical Marketing and Nancy Naeve from Spencer Mainstreet for helping make the day a memorable one for the ladies and volunteers.

Daniels adds, “The Ladies Day was designed to give our ladies a true pampered feeling day from the special gift bag from Nelson Jewelry, morning coffee and rolls, a special lunch, along with hands-on guidance from our hunting guides.”

A total of six roosters were bagged during the outing. Each year the Ladies Hunt has grown, and Daniels thinks, “I truly believe that next year we will have 40 or more women participants based on the number of women that reached out to me before and after the event that wanted to attend but couldn’t this year.”

Request from Pheasants Forever National

Earlier this fall, Pheasants Forever national headquarters reached out to the Clay County Pheasants Forever Chapter to see if the chapter would be willing to donate a weekend pheasant hunt for an online auction. David and Pat Nordel from Montana won the bid and came to the Spencer area for a two-day hunt the weekend of November 14-15. According to Daniels, “We thank David and Pat for visiting Clay County and experiencing the great pheasant hunting we have here. Thanks to our local landowners for helping share their pheasant habitat. Each day we had 4-5 local members who participated in the hunt with David and Pat. We were able to bag a good number of birds each day. They were both great bird hunters. We had a great couple of days and witnessed Pat shoot her first ever wild rooster. We were honored at the end of the two days when David and Pat presented our chapter with a check for $1,000 to cover expenses for our 2021 Youth Pheasant Hunt.”

Upon their return home, David Nordel sent this message back to their hosts. “Thanks a million…great time, and boy did we get lucky! Great hunt and super company. Pat and I are totally impressed with all you do for the community and especially the kids. Until next time ??!!”
