This past Saturday, February 6th, 43 people braved the snow and cold to participate in the 3rd Annual Snow Scamper 5K at Hillview Recreation Area. Many of the racers traded in their running shoes for snowshoes, as the course was covered in drifts up to 4 feet deep in places. Ben Jacobson, of Madison, WI, donning snowshoes, was the first person to cross the finish line in just over 46 minutes. A few people were determined to run the 5K though. (photo.JPG) shows our first runner, Kristin Lassen, coming up the final hill to the finish line. Her family is shown in the picture, cheering her on. Kristin Lassen has been the first runner in, all three years now. She didn’t set any records this year, but she still finished the race with an incredible time.

We want to send a huge thank you out to all of our runners, walkers and snowshoers. Thanks to all of our sponsors and park staff for helping make this year’s Scamper a success. All of the proceeds from this event go toward the development of a new playground at Hillview Recreation Area, west of Hinton.

For more information about the Snow Scamper or how to get involved for next year’s race or how to help with the playground fundraising project, please contact Diana at 712-947-4270 or via email at ddowhower@co.plymouth.ia.us
