I often think of the National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic as the greatest upland and conservation event in the country-all under one roof! This year the Fest is heading to South Dakota. And why not! After all, South Dakota has been known for years as the Pheasant Capital of the world. Growing up in South Dakota and having hunted it many times over the years, I would definitely agree that statement!
For the first time ever though, National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic is coming to South Dakota Friday, February 16, 2018 through Sunday, February 18, 2018. It will be held at the Denny Sanford Premier Center in Sioux Falls.
For those who have never attended, Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic is a trade show that focuses on wildlife conservation, upland game bird hunting (pheasant and quail), dog training, and wildlife habitat management and restoration. In connection with the trade show, Pheasants Forever also holds seminars on habitat improvement, pheasant hunting, shooting sports, wild game cooking, dog training, and conservation and lots more!
The 2018 event will celebrate both the 35th anniversary of Pheasants Forever and also the 100th (2018) pheasant hunting season for South Dakota.
Howard Vincent, president and CEO of Pheasants Forever, Inc. and Quail Forever, recently said, “South Dakota is the world’s undisputed pheasant capital, so it’s fitting that our signature event be held in the state during their ‘Pheasantennial’ year. Likewise, we believe National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic can serve as a platform to elevate the habitat discussion across South Dakota to ensure it remains the world’s pheasant capital.”
Pheasants Forever is currently having an early bird sign-up with a member cost of $125, which includes admission for all three days, access to all seminars and registration materials, Pheasantennial on Friday evening and the National Pheasant Fest & Quail Classic Banquet on Saturday evening. For a price of $140, non-members can become a member and gain entrance to all of the activities.
Each year Pheasant Fest is held in a different city across the Midwest. In 2017, for instance, it was held at the Minneapolis Convention Center, while in 2016, it was held in Kansas City, MO and as recently as 2015 in Des Moines.
