Need a way to get rid of a little cabin fever? Well, here’s an answer for you. The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club (IGLFC) will be hosting its annual Club Fishing Seminar at the Hap Ketelsen Center in Everly on Thursday, February 10 with doors opening at 5:30 p.m.
Terry Thomsen, IGLFC president, says, “This is an annual event that the club has sponsored for years. It’s a great opportunity for members to get together, share a good meal and learn some top open water tips.”
This year’s speaker is Derek Boeger, a top fishing guide from Alexander’s Sport Fishing Guide Service on Green Bay, WI. Boeger, an accomplished multi-species angler, will discuss fishing for walleyes, smallmouth bass and muskies on the waters of Green Bay.
When it comes to fishing, Boeger says he’s been fishing since he was one, “when my dad would put me on his shoulders.” A guide for 20 years, he says, “I am really excited about coming down to northwest Iowa and meeting members of the IGLFC. I will discuss fishing each of the three seasons (spring, summer and fall) on Green Bay. I plan on bringing equipment along to show different presentations. My hope is to be able to show some cutting-edge stuff that we’re using on Green Bay that can work on your lakes down there.”
Thomsen notes that the seminar and meal are both free for IGLFC members and their families. The cost is $10 for non-members. “This is a great time for current members to sign up if they haven’t already done so. We certainly welcome non-members, and we’ll gladly get them signed up, too.”
Thomsen continues, “One of our goals is to recruit youth to the sport of fishing, encouraging connection to the outdoors and fishing as a lifelong passion. We also want to help families connect with the outdoors and enjoy fishing as a family activity.”
The evening meal starts at 6 p.m., with the fishing seminar to follow about 7 p.m. The club will also hold a silent auction and raffle. A cash bar will be available.
