Area anglers need to mark Wednesday, February 19 on their calendar for the Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club’s (IGLFC) annual spring fishing seminar at the Hap Ketelsen Center in Everly. Doors open at 5:30 p.m., followed by the meal at 6 p.m. and seminar at 7 p.m. This year’s seminar will feature Johnnie Candle, professional angler, Devils Lake Guide and Sports Fishing Communicator. Candle notes, “I’m looking forward to this one. The Iowa Great Lakes Fishing Club has an incredible reputation as one of the best fishing clubs in the Midwest. I hope to see some familiar faces.”
According to Terry Thomsen, IGLFC president, “The evening’s activities are free to members, and we welcome the public to come. The cost for non-members is $10 and we will also have memberships available at the door. We are excited to have Johnnie Candle share his expertise with our IGLFC members and non-members alike. The topic of his seminar is A Winning Game Plan.”
Candle shares what he plans on talking about in his seminar. “No matter what species you are targeting, you have to have a game plan. If you want to be a successful angler, you have to prepare beforehand for that day’s fishing, make decisions during the day as the bite changes and then reflect on that after the trip is over. That’s what we’ll talk about during the seminar: helping fishermen analyze their own game plan.”
About Johnnie Candle
Johnnie Candle lives to fish and has since he was a youngster. When his dad, Frank, started Reeler’s Choice Charters on the central basin of Lake Erie, Johnnie worked as a first mate for his dad and several other captains, which helped him develop his fishing and boating skills. By age 21 Johnnie has obtained his Master of the Great Lakes US Coast Guard Captain’s License and began captaining his dad’s boat.
Johnnie graduated from the University of Akron with a degree in Marketing in 1993 and then followed his dream of becoming a professional tournament angler. Over the next 26 years, he has competed in the USFA, NAWA, PWT, MWC and NWT tournament trails.
Today, the tournament travels continue with the MWC, and he also guides on his home waters of Devils Lake, ND, represents his sponsors at various sport and trade shows, puts on several educational seminars across the country, along with writing multiple articles and hosting Pro’s Pointers TV on NBC North Dakota News.
In addition, several raffle items will be offered with the raffle drawing to follow Candle’s seminar.
