DNR Fishing Report – Dec 20

NORTHWEST
Brushy Creek Lake
Brushy Creek still has open water.  There is very thin ice in some of the far upper reaches of the lake.

Storm Lake (including Little Storm Lake)
Ice is not thick enough to venture out on.  There are some pockets of open water in the middle.

Black Hawk Lake
Black Hawk Lake’s fishery was renovated in November.  There is no fishing to be had on this lake at this time.  Ice thickness is around .75 inches with some pockets of open water.

Arrowhead Lake
Ice thickness is around .75 inches as of Wednesday.

Most lakes in the Black Hawk District have iced over, including some of the deeper pits.  However, travel on the ice is not yet advised.  Brushy Creek remains open.

Clear Lake
The ice on Clear Lake is not safe at this time. The lake still has large areas of open water.

Blue Pit
Rainbow Trout – Slow: trout are still being caught using small jigs and spinners.

Big Spirit Lake
The lake is all ice except a few holes the geese are keeping open. Ice conditions are variable and fishing is limited to a few sheltered areas. Use caution when fishing early ice, checking the ice frequently is highly recommended.

East Okoboji Lake
East Okoboji is frozen but ice conditions are too unstable for fishing.

West Okoboji Lake
Earlier this week skim ice was forming on the bays but the wind from the storm that hit Wednesday night/Thursday morning has opened all but the backs of the bays.
