DNR Fishing Report – April 12th

Beeds Lake Northwest Crappies (7-9 inches with some up to 12) are being caught. Largemouth bass are moving into the west end shallows. Anglers are catching some channel catfish and 6-8 inch yellow bass. 04/12 09:24
Big Spirit Lake Northwest The warm spring has brought upon above average water temperatures for this time of year and the fish are responding accordingly. 04/12 07:42
Big Spirit Lake Northwest Walleye and musky season is closed. Panfish are being caught off the North Grade and Templar park. A few Smallmouth Bass along with White bass may be caught on rock piles in various parts of the lake. 04/12 08:06

Black Hawk Lake Northwest Crappie – Slow: Some medium sized crappie were caught earlier in the week on very small leadheads with bright colored skirts tipped with a bit of crawler. 04/12 11:28
Black Hawk Lake Northwest Channel Catfish – Slow: Some good catfish were caught earlier in the week fishing shallow on a minnow below a bobber. 04/12 11:30

Briggs Woods Lake Northwest Anglers are catching 8-12 inch crappies using minnows. Largemouth bass (14-15 inches) are being caught with crawlers, and some bluegills on half crawlers. 04/12 09:24
Brushy Creek Lake Northwest Anglers have been catching a few fish around the area, but with the cold fronts and stormy weather coming through the next few days, fishing should slow down even more. Brushy Creek Lake Northwest Last weekend and earlier this week anglers caught some 10 to 11 inch crappies by fishing fairly deep (15 to 25 feet) using charteuse or white minnows or powerbaits. Fishing may pick up after this cool weekend. 04/12 11:35

Clear Lake Northwest Fishing is good, although the number of catches is slightly lower than last week – likely due to a reduction in water temperature from recent cool weather. Large numbers of sublegal walleye and some keeper (>14 inch) walleye are still being caught using either crawlers or jigs tipped with minnows. Yellow bass and white bass continue to bite on jigs tipped with bait in 2 to 6 feet of water. 04/12 09:24

Lake Cornelia Northwest Cooler temps have slowed things down since last week. Reports show some yellow bass and bluegills are biting on jigs tipped with crawlers. A few walleyes are biting on minnows at dusk. 04/12 09:31

West Okoboji Lake Northwest Walleye and musky season is closed. Due to being the deepest lake in the chain the water is not warming up as fast as the other lakes but is still ahead of normal. Panfish and largemouth bass are being caught in the canals as well as in some of the bays. Both largemouth and smallmouth bass may be caught near docks and there outskirts a few whitebass and northern pike may be picked up at the same time. 04/12 08:12
